Great piece, Salamanca is a treasure, we have great memories of stopping on the great square for dinner and watching the kids running around the arches. I'm not too sure about the third oldest university claim: it's certainly among the oldest, though depending on sources, Freiburg, Sorbonne, Coimbra all go way back, it was all a bit like the Internet rush in 90s, everyone setting up universities and building cathedrals, all around the same time. I love the transition from Spain to Portugal, have done it from several routes in each direction, both sides enriching, with their similarities and unique sparkling qualities, like a river flowing into a lake. Looking forward to your perspective on that.
